SHUTTING DOWN THE MICROPROBE

1. Move the stage until the cross hairs are on the brass part of the standard block.

2. Unblank the beam.

3. Turn off the Beam Current Regulator (push out REG ON and BCR mode).

4. Turn the filament voltage down to zero.

5. Step the Coarse kV to zero.

6. Turn the Electron Gun Power Supply off.

7. Turn off the Backscattered Electron Detector if being used.

8. Turn off the SEM Display if being used.

9. Turn off the High Voltage Power Supply Switch, on the X-RAY Console.

10. SHUT DOWN THE HIGH VACUUM DIFFUSION PUMP.

11. On the Vacuum Control Panel turn the key to MAN and turn off the Diffusion Pump. Let the pump cool for 20 - 30 minutes.

12. If you are shutting down for water stoppage, wait until the pump is cool and then shut the water mains off on the pipes behind the probe (2 lever switches pulled out to the right of the water filters).

13. Turn off the switch for Pump P2 on the Vacuum Control Panel (this pump is outside in the shed).

**** IMPORTANT! Then go to the clear hose, coming thru the outside wall, that says "break vacuum" on it and use a screwdriver to gently break the vacuum.

14. You are now done if this was a water shutoff.

FOR A COMPLETE WATER AND POWER SHUTDOWN, CONTINUE WITH THE FOLLOWING.

15. Turn off Lens and SEM Power Supplies.

16. Turn off the Vacuum Control Panel

17. Shut down the computer. On the menu bar, click START, SHUTDOWN.

18. Shut off the main power. Go behind the probe to the big circuit breakers (RED HANDLES) and pull them both down.

19. Turn off the round valve (closest to the tank) on the Red Nitrogen Tank.  

**** Do not turn the SILVER VALVE on this tank.  Also do not shut off the P-10 Gas.

20. Turn off lights and lock doors. Make sure the back door is shut tightly.
