The Office of Institutional
Research serves as a resource to the university in support of policy formation,
planning, decision-making and continuous improvement efforts, through the design
and execution of appropriate research activities.
The office provides reports, research, and institutional data that enable
administrators, faculty and staff to support the mission and achieve the goals
of the university, thereby continually improving student learning and success
and service to the community. The

- Maintains
a research Web site that provides internal and external communities
information about the university and its students.
This site includes links to University of Hawai’i System IRO MAPS
and other pages where routine descriptive and other data is made available
for each of the UW ten campuses.
- Provides
planning and analytical support for decision-making.
- Develops
and conducts surveys.
- Provides
expertise in research design, survey methodology, and analysis and
interpretation of data.
- Communicates
results from institutional research to the University community and
appropriate constituents.
- Provides
consulting support to academic and support units who wish to improve their
institutional effectiveness efforts, and various committees (strategic
planning, accreditation steering committee, assessment support committee,
retention committee) charged with student success and institutional
improvement.
- Strives
to meet all of its responsibilities (pending resources and priorities) in a
customer oriented, expeditious fashion by being proactive in operation.
