Geology Student Profiles
Fred LaChance
Fred LaChance came to UH Hilo from Kansas. He is an active local musician and enjoys several sub-cultures the island has to offer. He has been able to work for the Geology Department and CSAV, engaging in a variety of tasks. Fred notes, "The experiences gained here have dramatically changed my view both of self and surroundings. I would highly recommend UH Hilo to anyone looking for a creative environment in which to study and develop." In this photo, Fred repairs the electronics of the CSAV seismic array.
Darwina Griffin
Darwina Griffin is from Malaysia. This past summer, Darwina was able to work with the U.S. Geological Survey's Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, helping to monitor the eruption of Kilauea Volcano. In this photo, Darwina is at the base of Pali Uli as pahoehoe flows cascade towards the coast.
