I've been living in Beaverton, Oregon since I graduated. I married the love of my life, fellow UHH alumni Tasha King (Willaerts) in 1996. We now have a 7-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter. My first job after graduating was in the semi-conductor industry as a technician and engineer. I then worked for the Oregon Department of Transportation as a geodetic surveyor and photogrammertrist through 2005. My current job is with the Portland Water Bureau as a surveyor. I perform and process GPS surveys, topographic surveys, and boundary surveys. I've organized a couple of bathymetry surveys involving GPS and an echo sounder. I've also had opportunity to perform a Ground Petetrating Radar survey for underground untilities. In 2007, I became a Registered Professional Land Surveryor in the state of California.

My fondest memories of the UHH Geology Department were the times spent with the professors and staff. It was so easy to talk with them after class; it was obvious that they enjoyed teaching. Also, there were plenty of opportunities to go into the field: Trekking over lava, geodetic surveying, seismic studies...what a blast! My advice to current students: Get as much out-of-classroom experience that you can.
