Course Schedule
Introductory geology courses, including Geology of Hawaii (Geol 205), are offered every semester. We do not offer a traditional summer field camp, but a Volcano Monitoring Course (Geol 470) is offered every summer. The schedule for geology core courses is listed below.
- During Fall 2009, we will offer Geology of North America (Geol 431), GIS for Geology (Geol 445), and Earth Materials 1: Minerals (Geol 212).
- During Spring 2010 we will offer Earth Materials 2: Igneous/Metamorphic Rocks (Geol 320) and Earth Surface Processes (Geol 342).
- During Fall 2010, we will offer Deformation of the Earth (Geol 330).
- During Spring 2011, we will offer Field Methods (Geol 370).
In addition to the core courses, one or two upper-division electives are offered each semester. Possible electives include advanced environmental geology, geoloy of North America, geophysics, surface water, groundwater, GIS, remote sensing, and planetary geology. UH-Hilo has strong programs in astronomy, geography, and marine science. Some students may want to minor or double major in these disciplines.
