Dean's Message | Mission Statement | Self Study
I invite you to join us at the College of Business and Economics, the newest college at UH Hilo, and recently newly accredited by the AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. This AACSB accreditation is a hallmark of quality. We are very proud of achieving this distinction, and you will be too, as a graduate of our programs. The College offers baccalaureate degrees in business administration or economics, where you can choose to focus on accounting, ecommerce, finance, management, marketing, tourism, international economics, or traditional economics. Your education at the College will be personalized through small class sizes and interaction with faculty. Class sizes are small, capped at 40 students at the lower division level and in the upper division core. Upper division elective course enrollments are capped at 25 students. Your academic advisor will be one of our professors. You will develop a close relationship with your advisor, with many opportunities for one-on-one conversations related to your courses, your academic program, and your future career. Our graduates say this environment is one of the best qualities of a UH Hilo business and economics education. You may participate in experiential learning through internships, individual research with faculty mentors, and participation in academic conferences, in addition to class experiential assignments. Your internship may be with an organization on the island of Hawaii, within the State, on the mainland, or in another country. Community-based class projects provide students with service opportunities combined with experiential learning. The capstone course in business administration helps students integrate the functional knowledge acquired in the core business classes through team-based analysis and decision making in challenging management case studies. You may also participate in organized student activities. The Lambda Psi chapter of the national business fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi, actively engages its membership with the business and wider community of Hilo in activities that build leadership, organizational and networking skills and that foster fellowship and a sense of community responsibility. Members may attend national conferences and workshops of the fraternity. We invite you to join us in achieving our vision to become a premier institution in small business and entrepreneurship education. Marcia Sakai
