HEY PARTICIPANTS!
This is just a friendly reminder of this weekend’s activity, the
1ST ANNUAL FILIPINO COLLEGE STUDENT SUMMIT!
The Summit will take place on Friday, April 21, 2006 to Saturday, April 22, 2006 at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. This year’s theme is "Harvesting the Past, Cultivating the Future."
All participating members please pack appropriately and be at the airport as early as you can–our flight leaves at 305p on Friday, and we come back Sunday evening.
Two thousand six marks a historic year for Filipinos. The Filipino Community is engaged in Centennial celebrations commemorating the arrival of the first Sakadas to these Islands. As part of our contribution to the Filipino Centennial, Filipinos Linked In Pride is holding a conference for college students, the Filipino College Student Summit.
The Filipino College Summit is holding its 1st annual Conference at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Inspired from previous Pamantasan Conferences, the Filipino College Summit aims to look at issues that concern college students such as higher education, community concerns, self identity, Filipino heritage and history in the Philippines, and Hawaii and beyond. The planning of the summit first began and initiated in April of 2005. Led by college students, the Conference serves as a networking for other college students as well as look into their own Filipino heritage. Participants, volunteers, and panel presenters come all over the state.
We are also in celebration of the Filipino Centennial, 100 Years of Filipinos coming to Hawaii. Due to the significance of the Filipino Centennial, many events are being planned. However, there are few events that targets college-aged students. The summit serves to involve college students in the centennial celebration and provide a venue for them to learn, question, challenge, and reflect about themselves and their heritage.
SEE YOU ALL THERE!
Just a friendly reminder, our FIRST ESCRIMA session will be held on TUESDAY, APRIL 18,2006, 6pm @ UHH CCPlaza.
Come and immerse yourself in the culturally-enriching beauty and art form of Filipino Martial Arts! Please wear "attire suitable for intense physical activity" and don’t forget your waiver form!
