An intensive course in reading, writing, and thinking about major issues with emphasis placed upon interdisciplinary approaches. Students introduced to a representative group of faculty. The colloquium uses a seminar format and will encourage the development of a community of scholars.

An interdisciplinary study of the roots of Asian thought and culture. A study of the religious and philosophical traditions of India and China forms a basis for understanding the art, literature, drama, music, history, and social and political institutions in India, China, Japan, Korea, and South East Asia until 1200-1300.
