International Lunch Menu
Tuesday to Friday, November 13th to 16th; 11 am to 1 pm; UH Hilo Campus Center Cafeteria (Sodehxo)
Order a new international dish every day this week, starting with Thai, Mexican, Korean, and Hawaiian cuisine. Each lunch dish will range in price from $5.00 to $7.00. You will be able to enjoy your meal while viewing travel videos of exotic destinations around the world.
Tuesday to Friday, November 13th to 16th, 9 am to 12:30 pm; The Ohana Corner Café at HawCC will offer specials inspired by Middle Eastern Cuisine. Specials range in price from $5.50 to $6.95.
"Where in the World?" Photo Contest Display
Starting Friday, November 9th through Friday, November 16th; UH Hilo Campus Center Dining Room (Sodehxo)
Browse through the photo display submitted by students from UH Hilo and HawCC who entered the "Where in the World?" Photo Contest. Photos are of images taken from various countries around the world, including Italy, Thailand, Rapa Nui and many more. Formal announcement of winners will be held during the Middle Eastern Night Celebration on Thursday, November 15th.
Study Abroad to the South Pacific (Cancelled)

Noenoe Wong-Wilson, Taupouri Tangaro & Kekuhi Kealiikanakaole will present experience of traveling to Aotearoa (New Zealand) with students from the Hawaiian Lifestyle Leadership Program.
International Flair
Wednesday, November 14th; 10 am to 2 pm; UH Hilo Campus Center Plaza
A festive event, with international crafts, including fair-trade crafts from all over the world brought to us by the non-profit organization Ten Thousand Villages, as well as crafts and other cultural items from UH Hilo’s various international student clubs; information about going abroad with the U.S. Peace Corps; information about the many study abroad programs available through UH Hilo.
Generational Fashion Show
Wednesday, November 14th; 11 am to 12 noon; UH Hilo Campus Center Plaza
All encouraged to dress up to celebrate your cultural heritage. UH Hilo and HawCC students, faculty and community members will have an opportunity to showcase their outfits at this year's International Flair on Wednesday, November 14th at 11:00 am by modeling clothes from their grandparent’s generation on the Campus Center Plaza. Global Trivia Quiz Challenge
Wednesday, November 14th; 12 noon to 1 pm; UH Hilo Campus Center Plaza
Global trivia contest pitting teams of three students against each other. The quiz questions will test students knowledge about global history, geography, politics, and culture. Prizes will be awarded to the first and second place winners.
International Pizza Party

Credit and non-credit, local and international students meet to share culture and languages over FREE pizza and soda.
Study Abroad in Japan: Animation Studio Tour

Violet Murakami will share experiences of leading a group of students to Japan to learn about anime and film while earning credit.
Middle Eastern Night Celebration
Thursday, November 15th; 6:00 – 8:30 pm; UH Hilo Campus Center, Room 301
An evening to celebrate the Middle Eastern culture, traditions, and history. Facilitator Greg Trifonovitch, with panel members: Ismail Abdolahi, Jamil Ahmadia and Yousef Qattan. Nancy Schein, HawCC Educational Specialist, who recently completed a year of worldwide travel, will present a slide show of her two months in Egypt and Turkey. Belly Dancing by the Belly Babes. Crafts will be on sale from the Ten Thousand Villages. Browse through the display of beautiful personal items from our local Arab community. Winners from this year’s “Where in the World?” Photo Contest will be announced during the evening.

Global Astrotalk
Friday, November 16th; 7:00 pm; UH Hilo UCB 100
Originally from Denmark, Dr. Bo Reipurth, astronomer in residence at UH Institute for Astronomy, will recount his searches for meteorites on the icecap of Greenland, in the highlands of Brazil, and across the deserts of Chile, and will discuss what we have learned from the study of meteorites.
Cultural Film Schedule
All movies start at 7:00 pm at the UH Hilo Campus Center Plaza. Bring a chair, mat and relax while enjoying free popcorn.
- Tuesday, November 13th: Kau Lā‘au & Ma‘ama‘a: Traditional Hawaiian Ulua Fishing. The film is a half-hour documentary about the traditional ulua fishing practiced by Hawaiians from Kalapana village on the Big Island of Hawai‘i. The video features three generations of the Hauani‘o family, who still use the spectacular technique called kau lā‘au, hang-baiting, to catch the largest ulua weighing up to 100 pounds or more.
- Wednesday, November 14th: “Viva Algeria” (French Films).Three urban Algerian women face an uncertain future in this drama set during times of increasing fundamentalism. Twenty-something Goucem (Lubna Azabal), her traditional mother, Papicha (Biyouna), and prostitute Fifi (Nadia Kaci) must steer clear of the local terrorists yet still make enough money to survive. Liberated Goucem refuses to give up her freedom by continuing to work and hitting the nightclubs, while her mom longs for happier times.
