Ecology and Environmental Science: Belize

Study ecology and the environment while traveling along Belize’s rivers, through its tropical forests, and in its coral reef ecosystems. Mayan archeological sites and modern wildlife sanctuaries in the mountains, rainforests, and cayes of Belize will be used to explore the environmental effects of ancient and contemporary cultures. Study, live, and socialize side-by-side with Belizean college students. Earn 8 credits (take any two courses: ENSC 1000/L Introduction to Environmental Science, BIOL 2800 Ecology, BIOL 4720 Community Ecology, BIOL 4950 Ecology and Evironments of Belize). Program fee of $3,050 pays for tuition (8 credits), in country transportation (bus, van, boat), meals, housing (dorms, hostels, camping), lectures, field excursions, Belizean guides, and insurance. Fees do not include passport and related expenses, travel to Belize, and spending money.

Experience Belize
Led by Carol Sapp with the collaboration of Sacred Heart Junior College. The program will explore the context of health through society, culture, and developmental initiatives. This new program will be sponsored by Sacred Heart Junior College and Georgia College, but is open to students from COBEC member schools. Interested US students should submit the attached application and deposit to Georgia College and arrange with Liz Havey, Study Abroad Adviser, at liz.havey@gcsu.edu to register as a transient student at Georgia College. The process is relatively simple and out-of-state students need to pay only $250 additional.
