UH Hilo’s Center for Global Education and Exchange provides opportunities for student and faculty exchange, and study abroad programs for UHH students. The Center also develops international agreements with other institutions of higher education and promotes internationalization and global awareness on the UHH campus.

Boren Scholarship

Are you interested in studying abroad? Here is your chance to learn about the Boren Undergraduate Scholarship for studying abroad. Boren Scholarships are available for full academic year or semester programs, up to $10,000 for a semester and $20,000 for a full academic year. Preference will be given to applicants studying abroad for at least six months.The deadline for the scholarship application is on Friday, January 15,2010. Come to the presentation given by former UH Hilo professor Dr. Rick Castberg on November 20 from 11am to 12pm.

Study Abroad in New Zealand

Take a new path to New Zealand with AUIP and explore the avenues to study abroad for the summer 2010 on a 3.5 week journey while earning 6 upper division Biology credits. AUIP representative, Dr. Lee Stoner, is hosting two presentations to speak about this program. The first Presentation will be November 2, 2009 in Hale Kehau lounge @ 6:00 pm and the second will be November 3, 2009 in UCB 103 at 12:45 pm. Come and learn to experience a new journey.

University World Quest Trivia Competition 2009

On October 28th, the Center for Global Education and Exchange will be hosting the University World Quest Trivia Competition in the UHH Student Life Center from 6-7:30pm. Organize a group of four of your friends and test your knowledge on topics such as: CURRENT EVENTS, WORLD POPULATIONS, GLOBALIZATION, GEOGRAPHY AND MORE. The winning team will be sent to Oahu on November 19th to represent UHH against other universities. Register your team with the CGEE by October 23rd.

Business In Peru

Spend four exciting weeks learning about Peru’s developing economy and how it is opening doors for international trade. Upon completion of the Business in Peru program, participants will be awarded four credits from the Universidad De Lima, Peru. The University will accept 10-20 participants and include two courses lectured in English; Business in Peru and Peruvian Reality and Culture. Highlights of the program include a five-day trip to Cusco, and visits to the US Embassy, Industrial park of Villa el Salvador, Backus/ Yobel SCM, and much more.  

New Study Abroad Scholarship Opportunities

The UH-Hilo Semester At Sea Scholarship Program is a cooperative partnership between the University of Hawaii at Hilo and the Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE). This scholarship is to cover 60% of the total program fee for an economy priced cabin (price varies by semester); the UH-Hilo Financial Aid office will assist students with financial aid options to cover the remaining 40% of the program cost. The application can be downloaded (Application 75kb) and filled out electronically. Review of applications will begin on the following dates and will continue until all selections are made: study abroad for Fall/Year-Long: February 1 and Spring only: October 1.

The Audrey S. Furukawa Study Abroad Scholarship will enable eligible students to begin their global education journey, open infinite doors of opportunity and to promote world peace. Application can be downloaded ( Application Form (76kb)) and filled out electronically. The deadline is the last Friday in February.

The IFSA Global Scholarship Program is an an initiative created by the Center for Global Education and Exchange and funded by the IFSA Foundation. It is designed to allow semester and year-long study abroad opportunities for first-generation students with limited financial means by providing supplemental financial assistance. Overall, the program intends to create future leaders, that will utilize their experiences abroad to contribute to the UH Hilo and global community. More information and the application can be found here. Review of applications will begin on the following dates and will continue until all selections are made: study abroad for Fall/Year-Long: last Friday in February and Spring only: last Friday in October.
