Applications for Release Time Grants

UH Hilo Research Council

This program provides funds for a faculty member's department to compensate for the loss of a full time faculty for one course (three credits).  Faculty who receive an award are required to provide the Research Council with a copy of the grant proposal that results from their release time efforts. There is no form for the application.  Instead the application should take the form of a letter of intent, and is limited to two pages.  The following information should be included in the letter:

1. The semester for which one is applying.

2. The granting agency for which the grant proposal is being prepared.  If possible, specific information of a grant program within the agency should be provided.

3. A brief description of the intended grant project.  This description should include:

a. Specific objectives or aims of the proposal; for scientific research, major    hypotheses should be noted,

b. Significance of the scholarly work for the field

c. Very brief background for the intended work, and include preliminary work that may have been carried out, and

d. Basic methodology to be utilized.

4. In addition to the letter, a recent CV (this can be abbreviated) should be included.

5. Signatures from your department chair, division chair (for CAS faculty), and Dean, approving your application.

Applications for Spring 2009 or Fall 2009 are due September 8, 2008
