This document covers how to use the multimedia equipment shown and how to plug a personal laptop into the network and video projection system.
The picture, above, shows an eraser on the surface of the document camera. That image is shown on the instructor's monitor just behind it. The same image below in then shown on the screen, through the ceiling mounted video projector.
The VCR and DVD players are located in the cabinet on the left side of the console.
The multimedia equipment is turned on and selected with the same switch (below).
To turn the power On, press "Display Power" for a second or two. Release the button, then wait for the equipment to start up. The video projector will power-up slowly to protect the bulb. To select which device will be displayed, press it's respective select button. The selected item will glow blue.
To power off the system, press the same "Display Power" button as before for a second or two, then wait. This will begin the shutdown cooling cycle, getting the equipment set for the next time it will be needed.
You can plug a laptop PC in to this console with an SVGA video cable supplied at each location and by selecting "Auxiliary PC" with the selector switch. The picture below shows Ethernet (you must provide your own Ethernet cable and power cords), power and SVGA video plugged into the top of the console under the access cover. The video cable is provided, but if your laptop requires a special cable, you will have to supply your own.
You may need to get an IP Number from ACS. Unfortunately, web access is still a bit troublesome for laptops. So automatic or DHCP may not work. Why this is a problem goes to how the system wide network functions and needs to worked out yet. For an IP number, please contact Academic Computing Services .
If you have trouble, please contact the UH Hilo Help Desk.
