Associate or Full Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences (73382)
College of Pharmacy, special funds, full-time, tenure-track 11-month type appointment to begin approximately March 2010. The University reserves the right to hire at another rank when the selected candidate is qualified for the rank.
Duties: Teach the scientific basics of pharmacy as a health discipline to students entering the PharmD program, and advise students. Implement the scientific underpinnings of pharmacy practice as a health profession throughout the curriculum. Establish a funded research program that balances teaching and research. Perform service to the University and community. This position may also include serving as Chair for the Pharmaceutical Sciences department. As chair, direct and oversee the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences including: organize faculty teaching and research activities; develop faculty including mentoring for promotion and tenure; coordinate with College administration for curricular and resource management; interface with the graduate program director in establishing the Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences; and collaborate with University colleagues and external agencies on initiatives as directed by College Dean.
Minimum Qualifications: At the time of application: Associate Professor Rank: 1. Ph.D. degree from an accredited college or university in one of the Pharmaceutical Sciences or a doctorate with equivalent training in a relevant discipline. 2. Five (5) years of full-time college or university teaching at the rank of assistant Professor or higher with a sustained record and/or evidence of: a. high quality teaching performance; b. high quality scholarly and creative contributions; c. peer reviewed funding and publication; d. service to the academic life of a college. 3. Evidence of the ability to communicate clearly in the English language in the classroom and in the context of other student and faculty interactions. 4. Ability to contribute to the appropriate pharmaceutical sciences lectures and laboratory components of the PharmD and Ph.D. curricula. 5. Significant experience in advising Ph.D. students to degree and teaching experience with graduate students at a U.S., or equivalent, College or School of Pharmacy, or related basic or health science. 6. Relevant managerial or administrative experience. Full Professor Rank: In addition to the Associate Professor as stated above; 1. A minimum of five (5) years of full-time college or university teaching at the rank of Associate Professor or higher. 2. Minimum of two (2) years experience managing other faculty and programs including staffing, budget, and research laboratories. 3. Record of international recognition in the discipline of endeavor through participation in symposia, committees, and publication.
Desirable Qualifications: 1. A record of peer reviewed funding for research related to Pharmaceutical Sciences or Basic Health Sciences. 2. Postdoctoral experience in a department/division of a U.S. College or School of Pharmacy, or other related institution. 3. Curriculum development experience in a graduate/professional program at a U.S. academic institution or equivalent. 4. Commitment to diversity in education and research as demonstrated through participation in relevant programs and activities. 5. Experience as chair or director (including interim and/or acting) of an academic unit, or director/associate director of a large research program.
