Institutional Support (Research Grant Coordinator) (78945T)
College of Pharmacy, temporary, general funds, appointment to begin December 2009, pending position clearance and funding, renewal of appointment subject to performance and/or funding availability.
Duties: Assist in management of funded research grants and contracts awarded to the Dean, such as the National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute, to include interaction with all funding sections, collaborating scientists, and External Advisory Board. Serve as liaison and primary contact for subcontract institutions involved in the research program. Format and edit Dean’s manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals. Coordinate manuscript reviews and submissions with the Dean (Editor-in-Chief) for the journal Pharmaceutical Biology. Research other funding opportunities to support the basic science research program for the College of Pharmacy. Implement College and research program priorities assigned by Dean and Associate Dean for Research. Assist in coordination of grant proposal processes, progress reports, and technical reports. During preparation of grants and contracts within the College, help formulate budget and operational work statements. Establish grant budgets and monitor grant expenditures. Manage, track, and report on College grants, contract submissions, and awards. Serve as College liaison with the University of Hawaii at Hilo Office of Research and coordinate through the Office of Research all College research-related activities normally managed by these units. Manage College laboratory certifications, licenses, and protocols. Orient new research faculty and staff regarding training, licenses, and lab/safety approvals. Order laboratory supplies and equipment, maintain service agreements, and serve as contact person for the College research laboratories. Prepare background and promotional material on research programs, respond to requests for data, and prepare reports. Maintain College research faculty information and research facility information. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Business Administration, Liberal Arts, or related field and two years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for grant management, report preparation, special project management assigned on an ad-hoc basis, submission of competitive and non-competitive grant proposals, and/or budget preparation or equivalent education/training or experience. Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of competitive and non-competitive grant management as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable Federal and State laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with grant management. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software. For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations. Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated. Professional written and oral communication skills. Full understanding of confidentiality. Advanced computer skills, using numerous software programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access); Endnote; and Photoshop.
Desirable Qualifications: Experience working in a university environment under the supervision of senior management. Ability to handle a variety of vital tasks, assigned on an ad hoc basis (special projects), in a rapid, efficient and professional manner.
Pay Range: PBB, $3727/month minimum
