Position Description

Assistant/Associate Professor of Economics (73338)

College of Business & Economics, University of Hawai‘i at Hilo (UHH), general funds, full-time, nine-month tenure-track appointment, to begin approximately August 1, 2008, pending position clearance and funding.

Duties:

Teach introductory micro- and macro-economics and advanced undergraduate courses in natural resource economics and environmental economics; advise students; engage in scholarly activity and publish results in peer-reviewed journals, lead in new program development in this area and engage in outcomes assessment; participate in University and community service.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Economics or Related Field from a regionally accredited college or university. To be considered an applicant must show strong evidence of teaching effectiveness in the above areas and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing with students, colleagues and other employees at the UHH and in the community. For Associate level, in addition to the above, applicant must show evidence of scholarly activity in at least one field listed above, successful grant-writing experience, and interdisciplinary program development leadership and have at least five years of full-time college or university teaching at the rank of assistant professor or higher.

Desirable Qualifications:

Evidence of successful college-level teaching in a multicultural setting; the ability to lead in a collaborative and effective manner, a willingness to teach through distance education, the willingness to work with other units of the university and the local and state communities.

Pay Range:

Salary commensurate with training and experience.
