Strong Marine Science Program
I chose to attend UH Hilo because of its strong marine science program
Hilo, like Maui, is a small town and UH Hilo offers small class sizes with tons of exciting field work and hands-on learning experiences since the University is located in one of the most diverse marine ecosystems in the world. Besides the in-class learning of theories, I also learn how to operate different tools used in the research and study of marine science. There are also many job opportunities available to students for helping upper classmen with their senior thesis projects.
An added bonus is that UH Hilo is only an inter-island flight away from home (Maui) and it is easy for me to go home for the holidays and on other special occasions.
