Membership Criteria and Payment Options

 

MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA

1 UH-Hilo Students

All  current UHH students (part time or full time) are automatically Student Life Center members provided they have been assessed the Student Life Center fee. A valid I.D. with a current validation sticker is all that is required to enter the facility.

2(A)  HCC Students

HCC students are not assessed the Student Life Center fee.  Membership is optional.  To obtain membership, a HCC student may purchase an Aloha Day Pass or pay the $78 Student Life Center semester fee for the fall, spring ($35 for summer session). To purchase a membership, students must go to the cashiers' window at the UH-Hilo Business Office with a current student I.D.-card.  The membership receipt must be brought to the front desk of the Student Life Center to receive a membership sticker (placed on the Student I.D. Card).  This process must be repeated each semester. 

NOTE:  There is no pro-rated fee for memberships purchased in mid semester. 

 

2(B) UH System Students

Students currently enrolled at a UH System institution on another campus (ex. UH-Manoa, UH- West O’ahu) are eligible to purchase an Aloha Day Pass for $5 or may purchase a membership by paying the $78 Student Life Center fee ($35 summer session).   Payment procedure is the same as HCC Students.  Student fees paid at other campuses do not apply toward use of facilities at the UH -Hilo campus and are therefore, nontransferable.  Proof of current student status may be required.

3 Faculty/Staff

Aloha Day Pass

Current full and part time UH-System employees(Primarily UH-Hilo, HCC) are eligible to purchase an Aloha Day Pass for $5 (if they chose not to purchase a membership). 

  • Aloha Day Pass entitles the Faculty/Staff member to use all recreational facilities for one day.  To Purchase, the faculty/staff member must present his/her valid University ID card or a paycheck with photo ID (i.e. Drivers License) to the Student Life Center Front Desk and pay the fee ($5 cash or check).  A waiver form must signed for each visit.  There is no limit to the number Aloha Day Passes a Faculty/Staff may purchase (one at a time) during the year.

  • Faculty/Staff who are not currently employed by the University of Hawaii may enter the building only as a guest of a current Student Life Center Member.  Guest must have valid identification (drivers’ license/passport) and must pay a $10 Aloha Day Pass rate.  See Guest policies

Faculty/Staff Membership

Current full and part time UH-System (UH-Hilo, HCC) are eligible to purchase a full-access membership to use the Student Life Center.  Once the maximum capacity is reached for the Student Life Center, a membership waiting list will be created.  Membership plans include a yearly membership, a six month membership, or monthly membership. Please refer to the Membership Options and Pricing List for current membership rates. 

To Purchase, the faculty/staff must present his/her valid UH System ID card (or a current paycheck with Photo ID - i.e. Drivers License) to the Membership Services Office located in the Student Life Center - during business hours (M-F 8:00-4:00pm).  After employment confirmation, the faculty/staff will pay the fee for the selected membership (credit card, cash or check).  Monthly membership plan (automatic deduction) must be paid with a credit card. Please note that yearly and six month memberships must be paid in full and are non-refundable for any reason.   Yearly and six month membership aniversary date will be calculated starting from the date of payment. Monthly membership may be cancelled at any time prior to the automated monthly charge. 

Membership ID

After payment, a Student Life Center membership ID will be created at the same location (a ID photo will be taken) or a validation sticker will be place on the University ID, both will allow immediate usage of the facility.  The Student Life Center membership card or validated University ID must be presented to the front desk staff every time the member enters the building.

4(A) Spouse/Partner Memberships for Faculty, Staff

Spouses/partners of faculty/staff are eligible to purchase a Student Life Center membership only when the faculty/staff has purchased a Student Life Center membership.  Spouse/partner membership term cannot be longer or shorter than the faculty/staff member.

Spousal Requirements

To purchase the initial membership, spouses must present the faculty/staff person's UH-Hilo I.D Card or Student Life Center membership card in conjunction with his/her own picture identification to the Student Life Center Member Services desk with one of the following as proof of relationship:

1. His/her driver's license with matching last names
2. Joint checking/savings account or joint ownership of a residence or motor vehicle
3. Marriage certificate

Partner Requirements

To purchase the initial membership, partners must present the faculty/staff person's UH-Hilo I.D Card or Student Life Center membership card in conjunction with his/her own picture identification to the Student Life Center Member Services desk with one of the following as proof of relationship:

1. Same residence and joint billing (utilities, phone).
2. Assignment of beneficiary rights
3. Joint checking/savings account or joint ownership of a residence or motor vehicle
4. Mutual designation on a will or irrevocable living trust
5. Certificate of Partnership. This could be a document from a municipality that registers partnerships or proof of a committed partnership, such as a commitment ceremony.

Other forms of proof will also be considered. In the event of a dispute over eligibility, benefits verification through Human Resource Department will be the final determination.

 NOTE: To RENEW a membership, a spouse/partner need only present his/her Student Life Center membership card in conjunction with the I.D. card of the sponsoring faculty/staff person.

4(B) Spouse/Partner Memberships for Students

Spouses/partners of UH-Hilo students are eligible to purchase a membership to the Student Life Center..  The requirements and privileges for spouse/partners of students match those of faculty/staff spouse/partners

5 Alumni Membership

Aloha Day Pass

  • UH-Hilo Alumni Association Members may purchase an Aloha Day Pass to access Student Life Center facilities.  Aloha Day Pass entitles the Alumni Association member to use all recreational facilities for one day.  To Purchase, the alum must present his/her valid Alumni Association membership card (or a receipt if the card has not been received) and photo ID (i.e. Drivers License) to the Student Life Center Front Desk and pay the fee ($10 cash or check).  A waiver form must signed for each visit.  There is no limit to the number Aloha Day Passes an Alumnus may purchase (one at a time) during the year.

  • Alumni who are not members of the Alumni Association may enter the building only as a guest of a current Student Life Center Member.  Guest  must have valid identification (drivers’ license/passport) and must pay a $10 Aloha Day Pass rate. 

Alumni Membership

Only Aloha Day Pass is available. Membership is not available at this time.

 

6 (A) Alumni Spouse/Partner Membership  Only Aloha Day Pass is available. Membership is not available at this time.

 

Spousal Requirements

Same as the Faculty Staff/Partner membership, except using the Alumni Card as proof of Alumni status.

6 (B) Retirees   Only Aloha Day Pass is available. Membership is not available at this time.

Retirees (UH-Hilo) are defined as a 60 year old individual with 10 years’ service to the University, or 55 years old with 20 years.  Retirees may use Student Life Center facilities upon verification of their former employment. Retirees may purchase a Student Life Center membership for the same fee charged to faculty/staff members. Verification of employment records must be provided by the applicant. After I.D./document confirmation, the Retiree can pay the fee for the selected membership (credit card, cash or check). Credit card payment is the only option for a monthly membership plan.

Retiree ID

After payment, a Student Life Center retiree membership ID will be created at the same location (a ID photo will be taken) to allow immediate usage of the facility.  The Student Life Center Alumni membership card must be presented to the front desk staff every time the member enters the building.

7 Community Service Professionals Only Aloha Day Pass is available. Membership is not available at this time.

Individuals who are state employees and have been designated as high priority community members.  These professionals include, but are not limited to Hilo Police Department, Hilo Fire Department, members of the Hilo Community who have been designated as key contributors to the betterment of UH-Hilo.  The Recreation Department reserves the right to offer memberships for these individuals at their digression, in the best interest of UH-Hilo.

8 Community Members Only Aloha Day Pass is available. Membership is not available at this time.

Community members are defined as individuals who have no official affiliation with UH-Hilo or the University of Hawaii system.  Community memberships will only be made available if the usage of the Student Life Center will permit. Community members are eligible to purchase an Aloha Pass as an invited guest current Student Life Center Member (See Aloha Pass guidelines below). Summer Memberships for the greater Hawaii community may be offered in the future.

Dependent Policy

Adult children of full-time students or faculty/staff are not eligible to purchase a Student Life Center membership.  Aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, etc. are also not eligible to purchase a dependent membership.
