Campus Bookstore

Computer Competency Exam

You must pass the exam before you will be able to register for any 300 or 400 level business courses, or to take ACC 250 or QBQ 260. You should take the exam if you: have been accepted and intend to enroll in Business courses at UH Hilo; have taken coursework in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access ( UH Hilo's CS 101 covers these topics); and have reviewed the list of tasks that are included on the exam and are confident of your ability to perform them. English Proficiency Test

Required for all students whose first language is not English. REGISTRATION REQUIRED!

Math Placement Exam

NOT required for students who intend on enrolling in MATH 100, 107, 108, 121, or higher than MATH 206. Enrolling in courses other than those listed requires the math placement exam.

For students taking the placement exam: You must bring an ID card and a print card to print out result sheets. After taking the test, you must meet with math faculty. Math faculty will discuss your results, advise you to take appropriate math class, and enter placement exam results into the student information system, allowing you to register. You will not be able to register for a a math class without talking to an advisor about your placement exam scores.

Placement Exams

Depending on your major and the courses you are planning to enroll in, Placement Exams may be required. Placement exams in Chemistry, the Computer Competency, the English Proficiency Test (required for all students whose first language is not English) and Math are offered at different times throughout the year. SSSP Applications

Have you applied to our SSS program but haven't heard from our staff yet? Please call us at (808) 974-7616 or stop by our office in the Student Services Building - room 211. Our office hours are Monday - Friday, 7:45am - 4:30pm. Applications are still being reviewed. Applicants are still being contacted to schedule appointments. Interested students are welcomed to apply.

Student Health Services

The UH Hilo's Student Health Services is staffed by part time physicians and a nurse practitioner. Services include medical care, prescriptions, first aid, health education, tuberculin test and immunizations..

UH Hilo Performing Arts Center

Student Support Services Program students can learn about what's happening at the UH Hilo Performing Arts Center by logging on to this site to find out about Program activities, free tickets for SSSP participants and University events.

University 101-College Success Writing Intensive Course - Fall 2008

Learn how to jump start your semester at UH Hilo and get more out of your college experience. SSSP participants can enroll in SSSP's University 101this fall and satisfy both a writing intensive requirement and earn 3 credits! SSSP's University 101's class is facilitated by the SSSP professional staff and utilizes Dr. Skip Downing's On Course curriculum and text for student success. Not an SSSP participant yet? Writing Placement Exam

The Writing Placement Exam (WPE) is an essay exam that determines what level writing course you should be assigned to. You will have two hours to compose an essay in response to a question. The time frame allows you to make full use of the writing strategies you have learned. You should take the exam if you: (1) have been accepted and intend to enroll at UH-Hilo, OR (2) are an entering non-native speaker of English OR (3) have not already satisfied the Written Communication Requirement. The next scheduled WPE is scheduled for Saturday, October 4, 2008; 9am - 11am; UCB 100. You must register for the WPE. Visit the WPE website for more information. Register online now !
