Before You Register

UHH Home > Student Affairs > Office of the Registrar > Registration Guide

Registration is conducted online through a website called MyUH Portal, found at https://myuhportal.hawaii.edu/cp/home/displaylogin

There are a number of things you can do to prepare for registering with a minimum of errors and restrictions.

  1. Know When You Can Register.  Refer to the registration schedules to find out when you are eligible to register. Dates and times will vary depending on term.  You can also check the “Registration Timetable” on MyUH Portal.

  2. Check Your Registration Status.  Some restrictions may be placed on your account to prevent you from registering, such as financial and library obligations, parking fines, or health clearance.  To find out if you have any restrictions, go to “Check My Registration Status” on MyUH Portal.  This will display any holds on your account and who to contact to remove the hold so that you will be able to register.

  3. Check Class Availability.  The schedule of courses can be found online on MyUH Portal.  You can also see if any classes are closed and how many seats are remaining if you click on the “Check Class Availability” link on MyUH Portal.  Because MyUH Portal contains the most up-to-date information (including schedule changes such as course cancellations, additions, and changes in times or rooms), it is recommended that you check the online schedule and not rely solely on the printed schedule of courses.

  4. Check Course Prerequisites and Requirements.  Use the UH Hilo Catalog to check to see if the courses you want to register for require any prerequisites, co-requisites, recommended prior coursework, or special permission.

  5. Plan Out Your Schedule.  Make sure that you are planning to register for courses that will fulfill requirements for your degree, including General Education requirements, requirements for your major, and graduation requirements (such as Writing Intensive courses and the Hawaii/Asia/Pacific requirement).  Refer to the Catalog or the Advising website (www.uhh.hawaii.edu/studentaffairs/advising/) to find these requirements.  Use the Registration Worksheet included in this Registration Guide or on MyUH Portal to plan out your schedule.

  6. Meet With Your Advisor.  See your advisor for assistance with course selection, to review your progress toward meeting degree requirements, and to discuss your proposed schedule.  To find out who your advisor is, visit the Advising page on the UH Hilo website and click on “Who is My Advisor?”
