Academic Status
Satisfactory Academic Progress for Undergraduate Programs
Satisfactory academic progress is defined as maintaining a UH Hilo cumulative GPA of at least 2.0. Financial aid recipients should familiarize themselves with this policy as it relates to the Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy.

Dean's List
Full-time classified undergraduate students who earn 12 or more semester credits for a letter grade at UH Hilo and achieved a GPA of 3.5 or above in the previous semester will appear on the Dean's List.
Academic Warning
A student whose UH Hilo semester GPA is less than 2.0 will be notified and will be encouraged to seek academic counseling.
When a student's semester GPA is below 2.0, although the cumulative GPA is still above 2.0, he/she will be placed on academic warning.
Academic Probation
A student whose UH Hilo cumulative GPA is less than 2.0 will be placed on academic probation.
When a student's semester as well as cumulative GPA is below 2.0. In order to remain in school, a student on academic probation must earn a current GPA of 2.0 or above each and every semester thereafter until the cumulative GPA reaches 2.0 or higher. Anytime a student fails to earn a semester GPA of 2.0 or higher, he or she will be academically dismissed.
Continued Academic Probation
Following a semester on academic probation, a student will be placed on continued academic probation if the UH Hilo GPA for the semester just completed was 2.0 or higher, but the UH Hilo cumulative GPA remains less than 2.0.
Academic Dismissal
A student whose UH Hilo semester GPA and UH Hilo cumulative GPA are both below 2.0 at the end of a semester of academic probation or continued academic probation will be dismissed from the university.
If you've been academically dismissed by the university, you may appeal the dismissal to your college dean/director within 10 working days of receiving notification of your dismissal. You may submit your appeal via email or letter and the dean/director will respond to you with his or her decision.

Readmission
If your appeal to your college dean or director to reenroll at UH Hilo is approved, you must present the letter granting your readmission to the Admissions Office and reapply.
Academic Success Resources
A student on first-time probation should seek assistance immediately from any of a variety of resources available on campus. Students already associated with a support program should make an appointment to see their counselor as soon as possible.

Students on first-time probation not in these programs and who have not yet declared a major, should contact the Advising Center. All others should contact the UH Hilo Counseling Center at (808) 974-7399.
