Itinerary of Events for Students

June 1st - July 31st, 2008
Welcome to the UH Hilo Vulcan Family! Orientation is more than just advising and registering for classes. Orientation will give you the tools you need to survive the first week of school. The registration fee for new, transfer or returning students is $75, which is separate from other fees that you have paid for this semester. This fee covers most of the activities outlined in this itinerary (unless otherwise specified). Please stop by the orientation check-in tables on Monday, August 18th, at the Campus Center Plaza to pick up your survival packs before you go to the first session, "Good Morning UH Hilo" that starts at 7:45 am .
June 1, 2008 is the first day of registration. July 31, 2008 is the last day to register and cancel. Accomodations after this date and for walk-ins will be made on a first come, first serve basis, pending availability. This does not guarantee that all sessions will be available for sign-up as we get closer to orientation week. Please call the New Student Programs Office should you have any questions: 808-933-0732.
Student Orientation Fee Waivers
Student Orientation Fee Waivers are for students who may need additional financial assistance. To be eligible, students will need to write a one-page essay describing why they think orientation will be beneficial for them. Essays are due by Monday, July 21,2008 and can be submitted via e-mail to uhhntrso@hawaii.edu. There are a limited number of waivers available. The essays will be reviewed and awardees will be chosen by a peer selection committee. For more information contact the New Student Programs Office at 808-933-0732.

Airport Pickup - Sunday, August 17th ONLY detailsAll flights arriving in Hilo on Sunday, August 17, 2008, will be met at the airport by friendly UH Hilo staff. Staff will help you with luggage and direct you to waiting vans to drive you to your on-campus Residence Hall or to one of the University's off-campus housing partner location. Off-campus students should notify the manager of the complex about check-in time to ensure you will be able to check-in at the time of your drop off. If you arrive on any other date you will need to arrange your own transportation. Taxi service is available from the airport . The cost is approximately $10-$12.The campus is 3.4 miles from the airport. |

Poetry Slam detailsThe Sexual Violence Prevention Committee is proud to bring to UH Hilo, renowned SlamMaster, Kealoha! Kealoha will be conducting a special workshop that focuses on some issues presented during the presentation from Da Kine Aks on Wednesday evening. His workshop series, called "Stylistic Elements," exposes students to performance poetry, gives them a hands-on writing experience, and inspires them to find their own poetic voice. Students who participate in this event will be able to enjoy heavy pupus, Kealoha's artistry, and will have the opportunity to get their creative juices flowing! |

Lū'au Under the Stars detailsCelebrate the progression of your journey through UH Hilo as the traditional Hawaiians have always done, with food and fun under the stars! You and your family are invited to enjoy the 'Imiloa Astronomy Center of Hawai'i - Hawai'i's premier interpretive center for modern astronomy and Hawaiian cultural traditions. Your payment & registration to this exclusive event includes entrance into the Center, self-guided tours through the exhibits, and a 20-minute planetarium show. To close this event, we will gather to enjoy a traditional Hawaiian Lū'au(feast), along with an exciting display of multicultural entertainment. Aloha attire and comfortable shoes recommended!
