Sign-up for Parent/Family Orientation detailsOrientation for parents and family members is just as important as student orientation. You are an integral part to your students' successful transition to the UH Hilo community! Parent/Family orientation is designed to help you learn more about your students' new home away from home; become aware of resources here at UH Hilo to help support your student; answer any questions you may have about living in the residence halls and in the community; your rights as a parent or family member; and most importantly,welcome you to the Vulcan family! The registration fee for parents or family members is $35 each. This fee covers most of the activities outlined in this itinerary (unless otherwise specified). Parent orientation begins alongside student orientation on Wednesday, January 7, 2009. Please note that the campus will be closed Monday, December 21, 2009 through Friday, January 1, 2010. Payments not received by Friday, December 18, 2009, will not be processed or posted until the week of January 4, 2010. For more information regarding campus closures, please go to: Campus Closures Please stop by the orientation check-in tables on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at the Campus Center Plaza beginning at 8:00 am. Check-in will also be available after the first general session, Good Morning UH Hilo, which begins at 9:00 am. October 29, 2008 is the first day to sign up for orientation. December 5, 2008 is the last day to sign-up. Accomodations after this date and for walk-ins will be made on a first come, first serve basis, pending availability. This does not guarantee that all sessions will be available for sign-up as we get closer to orientation week. Parents or family members who have already signed up for orientation, but decide that they are unable to attend orientation, must cancel by December 5th by e-mailing the New Student Programs Office at uhhntrso@hawaii.edu, to receive a refund or to prevent from their students' account from being billed. Parent Panel Discussion detailsAt this session, you will have the opportunity to hear from University Administrators and Staff on a more casual and personal level. A panel of University representatives, will be able to answer any pressing questions that you may have. This may include information that pertains to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)and what this means for you as parents or family members; questions about student rights and responsibilities; information regarding safety on campus; and find out much more about financial aid and housing issues. |

UHH Survival Fair detailsWhat does it take for your student to survive their first semester here at UH Hilo? Will they know what SSSP stands for? Where can your student go to talk about stress, relationships, or family? What if your student needs financial assistance - where do they find resources to support their needs? Can they get free tutoring? All these questions and more can be answered at this event! Most departmental and support services offices will be here in one location to help your student find the tools for their survival at UHH. UH Hilo is here for you and your student! |
