New Student Life Center Fee

The UH Board of Regents recently approved a new recreation fee of $78 per semester for all UH Hilo students. The fee will allow all students access to the new Student Life Center on campus, which is expected to open at the beginning of the Fall 2008 semester. This means students will pay only about $17 per month to use the Center. On average, recreation, fitness and wellness centers at universities across the nation charge students a higher mandatory recreation fee. Fees are necessary to cover the expenses of operating a high-quality, first-class facility.

The beautiful new Student Life Center includes nearly 23,000 square feet of indoor fitness/recreational rooms, a cardio and weight room, dance and aerobics rooms, a lounge with wireless internet, an indoor cafe', locker rooms, an outdoor Olympic-sized swimming pool, and an open deck by the pool.

The new fee has been automatically added to the account of any student who has already registered for the Fall 2008 semester. The University was conscientious to keep the fee as low as possible so that the Center can operate effectively and safely while still being affordable for students. The new Center is a fabulous addition to UH Hilo and will greatly enhance student life on campus! You can read more about it and see photos at www.uhh.hawaii.edu/studentlife/center .
