Unity Through Diversity Symposium

Pride Hilo, the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer (LGBTIQ) registered independent student organization of UH Hilo and Hawaii Community College would like to invite you to a seminar on campus entitled “Unity through Diversity, exploring gender, sexuality, and culture”. Join us in supporting diversity in our community. Transgender Activist/Consultant Laura Acevedo will be speaking on Gender Diversity. From Oahu, Camaron Miyamoto, coordinator of UH Manoa student services will present on “What’s loaded in the label ‘Queer Asian and Pacific Islanders’?: The case for the persistence of collective identity through history, culture, and community”. And we welcome Yolisa Duley, director of the National Coalition Building Institute of the Big Island, working with us on "Honoring Diversity, Building Allyship between LGBTIQ and Straight members of our Community". A panel of community members will address the issues of living out in Hawai`i and answer questions of the audience. Heavy pupu will be provided for donation only; proceeds go to the Pride Hilo scholarship fund! Mahalo to the UH Student Equity, Excellence, and Diversity Grant for funding, the UHH Dean of College of Arts and Sciences and the UHH Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs for their support.
