Career Center offers on-line employment listings

The University of Hawai'i at Hilo Career Center has made it a little easier for employers seeking help and students seeking employment to cross paths. The Center has recently unveiled an online job-listing program enabling employers to list full-time, part-time, and summer positions available on the Center’s Web site.

The service, at http://career.uhh.hawaii.edu, is free of charge and available to employers in both the private and public sectors without a fee.

"So far 45 employers are signed up to use the site," said Career Center Director Dr. Norm Stahl. “I'll still take paper listings from employers, but this gives them far more visibility."

Stahl said that the site is designed to be user-friendly to prospective employers who want to list job openings.

"There's a link called 'Services for Employers,’” Stahl added. “An employer can click on that link. It will take him or her to a page where it describes our services in terms of job listings, on-campus interview facilities, company information sessions during our fall and spring job fairs and contact information for myself and (Director of Student Employment) Randal (Usui).

"Right at the top of that page is a link that says 'Online job listing service' which will give you 24/7 visibility. If an employer clicks on to that, that goes to a log-on page. They can create an employer account. It asks questions such as point of contact, address, phone number, type of industry, e-mail, that kind of stuff.

"Once they log on and get that completed and submitted, I get an e-mail telling me that an employer has applied for an account and I go check it out to make sure it is a legitimate employer. Then I will approve it the same business day. We'll send them a little e-mail thanking them for signing up and then they're free to log on and post their open positions,” he explained.

"Then there is a menu where they can specify where the job is: Hilo; the Big Island; other islands; U.S. mainland or various locations oversees. There are also places for them to type in job requirements, duties and descriptions and application information.”

Besides job listings, services on the site include a listing of current events such as interview workshops or career fairs.
