University film series continues on December 4
The University of Hawaii at Hilo film series, Cinema from Africa and the Diaspora, continues on Thursday, December 4 at 6:30 p.m. with Daresalam (2000), directed by Issa Serge Coelo, Chad. The film will be shown in UH Hilo’s UCB 100. General admission is $3.00; there is no charge for currently registered UH Hilo/Hawai`i Community College students.
Daresalam is the first African feature film to focus on the civil wars convulsing the continent from Sierra Leone to Somalia. It provides compelling insights into how ordinary people around the world get swept up in extraordinary events. The film is in Arabic and French with English subtitles.
