Rehearsals for community chorus to begin at UH Hilo

Interested singers from the community are invited to join the University of Hawaii at Hilo University Chorus in rehearsals beginning Monday, September 29 at 7:00 pm.

The chorus will be preparing for a concert to be held December 6 at the UH Hilo Theatre. Repertoire will include Part I of Handel’s Messiah and the world premiere of Advenir, a new composition by local composer and musician Michael Springer. Springer is a graduate of UH Hilo and is presently choral director at Kamehameha Schools on the Big Island.

Performing with the University/community chorus will be the University Chamber Singers, the Kamehameha Schools High School Chorus and the Ho’ulu Pila Chamber Orchestra.

Rehearsals will be held on Mondays from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm in UCB (University Classroom Building) 100.

Singers are encouraged to bring their own copies of Messiah. Copies of the music will be available for those who do not have personal copies. Music for Advenir will be provided. Rehearsals and the concert will be conducted by Maestro Ken Staton, director of choral activities at UH Hilo.
