For Immediate Release

The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo has awarded its 14th annual Frederick K.T. Tom Memorial Scholarship to Ann Tanimoto, a student in the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resource Management. Tanimoto received the scholarship based on her scholastic achievement.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to study plant tissue culture and its potential to address food sustainability,” Tanimoto said. “My goal is to be a part of a team working toward that objective outlined by the Hawai‘i 2050 Sustainability Task Force.”

The scholarship was established in honor of Dr. Frederick K.T. Tom, the College’s dean from 1976 -1981. Tom passed away in June 1993.
