For Immediate Release

Trying to eat better and stay healthier this holiday season? Join Mary Bowman Dement, RD, in a “Holiday Meal Makeover” class presented by the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo College of Continuing Education and Community Service on Saturday, November 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Manono Campus, Building 381, Room 16. Cost is $30 plus a $5 fee for the included meal, with members of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) receiving a $5 discount.

Participants will learn to assess some traditional holiday favorites, receive tips for healthier modifications, sample some dishes and discover new recipes. Dement will also teach some key concepts of diet and nutrition so that one can make informed food choices.

“It’s important to find a balance in eating,” says Dement. “The holidays are a time of celebration, so meals should be enjoyable. There are very simple changes that can be made to help people survive the holidays without too much guilt.”
