UH Hilo seeks Mauna Kea cultural council member

The Office of Mauna Kea Management (OMKM) at the University of Hawai'i at Hilo is seeking applications from members of the Hawai'i Island community who may be interested in serving on Kahu Ku Mauna. The application deadline is November 30, 2002.

As described in the 2000 Mauna Kea Science Reserve Master Plan, Kahu Ku Mauna advises the OMKM, the Mauna Kea Management Board, and the Chancellor at UH Hilo on cultural matters relating to the Mauna Kea Science Reserve, including programs and policies. It also reviews and provides input on projects and activities proposed for the Mauna Kea Science Reserve. There is currently one seat available.

Membership qualifications are as follows:

** Each member shall have sufficient knowledge and experience of, or be in the process of gaining such knowledge and experience of the cultural significance and sacredness of Mauna Kea and the cultural practices and traditions as applied to traditional and customary use of Mauna Kea; and

** Members shall reside on the Island of Hawai`i.

Interested individuals should submit a cover letter stating their interest in serving on Kahu Ku Mauna, an application form, and a short biographical to:
