Na Pua No`eau announces recipients of the 2008 Hideo Noguchi Advancement of Native Hawaiians Scholarship

Six students were selected to receive the newly established Na Pua No`eau Hideo Noguchi Advancement of Native Hawaiians Scholarship to attend one of the University of Hawai‘i campuses. Students who had been active participants of the University of Hawai`i’s Na Pua No`eau, a kindergarten through grade12 Statewide culture-based Center, were eligible to apply.

The recipients are:

•Kiani Elie Yasak from Maui, will be a junior at the University of Hawaii at Hilo majoring in Hawaiian Studies. $800 award

•Alexander Keali`i Kea III from O‘ahu, will be a freshman at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa majoring in Hawaiian Studies. $900 award

•Cheney-Ann Pulama Kealoha Keikilani Lima from Moloka`i, will be a junior at UH Hilo majoring in Hawaiian Studies and Political Science. $800 award

•Nakoa Michael Derrick Goo from Hilo, will be a senior at UH Hilo majoring in Marine Science. $800 award

•Pililuaikekaiohilo Mary Keala from Moloka`i, will be a senior at UH Manoa majoring in Hawaiian Studies/Hawaiian Language. $900 award

*Kalia Susan Yasak from Maui, will be a freshman at UH Hilo majoring in Hawaiian Studies and Nursing. $800 award

Na Pua No`eau has over 800 college students currently enrolled at one of the University of Hawai`i campuses. The goal of the Center is to raise the achievement and aspirations of Hawaiian students and their families.
