For Immediate Release

Dean William W. Steiner, College of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resource Management (CAFNRM), University of Hawaii at Hilo, recently announced the award of the 12th Annual $500.00 Frederick K. T. Tom Memorial Scholarship to CAFNRM senior Mohammad Alam.

Alam is from Bangladesh, a country vastly dependent on agriculture. He plans to pursue graduate studies in Biotechnology because he feels it will play a vital role in reducing the food problem found worldwide.

The scholarship was established in 1995 in memory of the late Dr. Tom, first dean of the UH Hilo College of Agriculture, to assist full-time students in the completion of their studies. Tom was dean of the College from 1976 to 1981, and passed away in June 1993.
