Nā Pua No‘eau receives $980,866 OHA grant for educational enrichment

Nā Pua No‘eau, a Hawaiian culture-based education center headquartered at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, has received an award of $980,866 for the 2007-08 fiscal year from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA).

The award will be used to provide educational enrichment program activities for students of Hawaiian ancestry in grades Kindergarten through 12. These activities will be conducted through the Nā Pua No‘eau offices based at the University of Hawai`i at Hilo, University of Hawai`i Center in West Hawai`i, University of Hawai`i at Manoa, Kaua`i Community College, Maui Community College, the Molokai Education Center, and Lanai High and Elementary School.

“This 14-year partnership with OHA has had a significant impact on inspiring our Hawaiian children to learn, in connecting education to our Hawaiian culture, and broadening the educational and career possibilities for our students,” said Nā Pua No‘eau Director Dr. David Sing. “We currently have over 800 students enrolled at the University of Hawai`i campuses who have taken part in various Nā Pua No‘eau events and activities, which illustrates the effectiveness of long term partnerships like the one we’ve enjoyed with OHA.”
