For Immediate Release
Dr. Cheryl Ramos, assistant professor of psychology at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, has begun recruitment for the "No Cancer” group for the "Before and After Cancer" study she began in Fall 2006. Ramos, who herself is a four-time cancer survivor, is hoping to add to the body of knowledge related to cancer survivorship in rural communities, an area that is currently under-researched and in need of additional study.
Ramos is recruiting two groups of participants living on the Big Island of Hawai'i for her study. Recruitment for the "Cancer Group,” adults who were diagnosed with cancer within the past two years, began in August 2006 and continues. She is now also recruiting adults who were never diagnosed with cancer, especially those who are 40 years of age and older, for the "No Cancer" group. Ramos said, "I would like to thank those who have already volunteered and participated in the study. I encourage other adults who never had cancer, and those who were diagnosed with cancer within the past two years, to give me a call. Your participation is vital to our research endeavor and greatly appreciated.”
Participants will complete a series of surveys in a questionnaire packet and receive a $10 KTA gift certificate in appreciation for taking part in the project. Ramos emphasized that the identity of study participants and all data collected is confidential.
For more information about the study, or to volunteer as a participant, please call Dr. Ramos at (808) 756-2075.
