O’Donnell new dean of CCECS
Dr. Michael O’Donnell has been named the new dean of the College of Continuing Education at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
O’Donnell comes to UH Hilo from Salish Kootenai College, a tribal college in Montana, where over three decades he served in numerous positions, including academic dean, vice president for administration and branch campus director.
“Mike O’Donnell comes with qualifications that are an excellent fit for UH Hilo,” Chancellor Rose Tseng said. “He has a great deal of experience in outreach education, indigenous education and community service. We’re pleased to welcome him aboard.”
O’Donnell was SKC’s first employee, and was an integral part of bringing higher education to the Flathead Indian Reservation. In a geographic area where approximately one Native American per year received a college degree between 1935-76, SKC has awarded over 2,200 bachelors or associates degrees since 1978, its first graduating class.
