Miyashiro named UH Hilo Employee of Quarter

Alvin Miyashiro has been named the Administrative Affairs Employee of the Quarter at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
Miyashiro, a janitor for Auxiliary Services who has worked at UH Hilo since 1998, has been described as a “cleaning machine.” His beat is the areas surrounding buildings, including parking lots, grounds and walkways. His nominator for the award described Miyashiro as “constantly on the move to insure that his area of responsibility is clean and free of rubbish.”
The nominator wrote that Miyashiro, who is hearing impaired, “is cordial and respectful of others and always willing to help no matter what the task.” According to the nominator, Miyashiro continues to be enthusiastic about the job and is grateful that UH Hilo hired him.
“He has proven and sustained his superior performance and has also demonstrated his excellence in service with his willingness to help people,” the nominator wrote.
The Employee of the Quarter Award includes both a plaque and a monetary award.
