North Hawai`i Education and Research Center offers late summer classes
The University of Hawaii at Hilo North Hawai`i Education and Research Center (NHERC), located in the former Honoka`a Hospital building, has announced the addition of late summer classes to its schedule.
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) will offer two classes beginning in late July. “Care giving Training” will run for six consecutive Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. July 22 through August 26. The course will cover important topics such as communication and reporting procedures, health and safety for clients and the employee, ethics in the workplace, and caring for both the young and elderly with disabilities. Individuals may choose to take one or all six sections.
“Art: Take a Look, It’s a Book” is a course that will focus on the process of book art, papermaking, and scrap booking. Participants will create a scrapbook “from scratch” during the course, which will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. July 25 through August 10.
The Center will also offer two college level courses beginning August 22. English 22 “Introduction to Expository Writing” is a three credit pre-college level course that supports individuals preparing to enter college. English 100 “Expository Writing” is a college level class that is open to both high school students and community members.
