Earn college credits this summer
The University of Hawaii at Hilo College of Continuing Education and Community Service (CCECS) will be offering courses for college and high school students interested in earning college credits this summer.
Two summer sessions are being offered: May 15 – June 9 and June 13 – July 21. Any current UH Hilo student or any CCECS student is eligible to apply without completing any additional forms. All others – incoming UH Hilo freshmen (Fall 2006), students from another university spending the summer here, a high school graduate, or an advanced high school student (sophomore or junior) – must complete and submit the Summer Session Application Form and Residency Form to UH Hilo’s Admission office.
“This is a great opportunity for qualifying high school students to take classes for college, and in some cases, high school credit through the Running Start program,” noted Corinne Tamashiro, dean of CCECS.
“A variety of courses are being offered, from basic staple courses such as History 151, Psychology 100, English 100, to spectacular Marine Science courses involving exciting field trips to coastal and underwater sites around the island.”
For those who have summer jobs and would like to earn college credits, CCECS is also offering online courses that are accessible to those who have access to a computer and a high speed connection. This summer, a total of 20 online courses are available.
Information on both summer sessions and courses offered can be found at: http://www.uhh.hawaii.edu/depts/summer/. The summer application form can be obtained online via: http://www.uhh.hawaii.edu/forms/summer.php.
