Na Pua No‘eau Super High Day

Managing and preserving the Big Island’s land and natural resources will be the focus of Na Pua No‘eau’s Super High Day on Tuesday, April 25 on the University of Hawaii at Hilocampus. The event will bring 100 Native Hawaiian high school juniors from Big Island schools to meet with UH Hilo faculty and others in the scientific community to gain hands-on learning about careers related to the management and protection of the Big Island’s natural resources.

Activities will revolve around the following themes: Lonoikamakahiki, an exploration of traditional sustainable agricultural systems within the ahupua‘a; Kane a Kanaloa, an exploration of marine mammals and coastal ecosystems; Na Kilo Hoku, an exploration of navigation and stargazing technologies; and Kuhali‘imoku, protecting and conserving Hawai`i’s forest ecosystems.
