CCECS Senior College staff

The University of Hawaii at Hilo College of Continuing Education and Community Service (CCECS) has recently hired staff for its Senior College, which will serve adults over 45 years of age in geographically isolated areas of the Big Island.

The new unit was made possible by a grant funded by the Osher Lifelong Learning Foundation of San Francisco, California. Osher funds a total of 48 universities throughout the United States offering lifelong learning programs to older adults.

Newly-hired staff pictured are from left to right: Nate Chang, East Hawai`i Coordinator, serving Hilo, Papaikou, Honomu, to Laupahoehoe; Dr. Margaret Haig, Principal Investigator and writer of the Osher funded grant; Caroline Garrett, South Hawai`i Coordinator, serving Keaau, Pahoa, Kalapana, Mountain View, Volcano, and Pahala to Naalehu; Kathleen “Naleimomi” Sullivan, West Hawai`i Coordinator, serving Honaunau, Kealakeakua, Keauhou, Kailua-Kona, and Kalaoa to Waikoloa; Lucy Maloney, SeniorNet Outreach Coordinator. Maloney, working with the County,
will be extending computer services to the elderly, through SeniorNet computer laboratories throughout the island. She will be also responsible for training staff, running classes and drop-in laboratories. A North Hawai`i Coordinator, serving Pauillo, Honokaa, Kamuela, and Kawaihae to Kohala, will also be hired.
