The University of Hawai`i at Hilo recently received a large number of law books, donated by prominent Hilo attorney Valta Cook.
Cook's gift includes a number of leather-bound publications, which are believed to be quite valuable. The books became available when Cook moved his law office to a new location and were moved into the mock courtroom in the new University Classroom Building prior to the start of the Fall semester.
"These books are a great addition to our program," said Dr. Rick Castberg, professor of political science, who teaches a number of law-related courses. "They not only add a great deal to the atmosphere of the courtroom, but are quite useful for teaching students how to research cases."
Cook is a longtime supporter of the University. He annually raises money for Vulcan Athletics through his membership in the Rotary Club of South Hilo, where he is the president-elect.
