For Immediate Release
The University of Hawaii at Hilo will host a free public showing of Happy Times, a 2002 film by acclaimed Chinese director Zhang Yimou. The presentation is on Tuesday, April 27, from 6:15-9:00 p.m. in UCB 100.
Happy Times is a dramatic comedy in Cantonese with English subtitles about an aging, love-starved bachelor who employs a dating agency who keeps sending him women who are too thin for his taste. He apparently finds success when the agency finally puts him in touch with a larger woman.
Dr. David Li, the Collins Chair of the Humanities at the University of Oregon, will host the event. Li will give a brief introduction before the screening on director Zhang Yimou, who is famous for films such as Ju Dou, Raise the Red Lantern, Shanghai Triad and Not One Less. Li will also help conduct a discussion following the screening.
