UH Hilo educator named to national license examination body

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing Inc. recently selected Dr. Cecilia Mukai, director and department chair of the baccalaureate nursing program at the University of Hawai`i at Hilo, to participate in its licensure examination item development session held June 9-12, 2002 in Chicago.
As an item development writer, Mukai wrote the questions, or items that will be used, as part of the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). She was one of 11 nurses selected nationwide for this prestigious assignment.
The National Council is responsible for developing and administering the NCLEX examination for all nurses in the United States and five U.S. territories. The examination identifies those candidates who demonstrate minimal competence to practice nursing at the entry level. Passing the NCLEX examination is one of the requirements necessary for attaining a nursing license.
