UH Hilo and Peking University offer Chinese culture study tour

For the thirteenth consecutive time, the University of Hawai`i at Hilo and Peking University will co-sponsor the Summer Institute in Chinese Thought and Chinese Culture. The program will include lectures on Chinese culture as well as field trips to various historical sites, ancient cities and cultural centers in China. English translation will be provided for all classes and activities. The application deadline is March 15, 2002.
The program offers two cultural tours. The first tour will be from May 20 to June 16, 2002. The second tour will be from July 10 to August 5, 2002. The tour cost of $3,550 includes: air, train, boat and bus fares; major field trips and entrance fees; tuition and lecture fees; room and meals; registration and dormitory fees; domestic airport taxes and tips. Those who have previously participated in a tour may obtain a fee deduction of $600.
Peking University will grant two credits and issue a certificate to tour participants. Students will obtain four credits from UH Hilo, and the credits can be used to satisfy two UH English writing intensive requirements. Extra research for additional three to six credits can also be arranged. Auditors are welcome, but must follow the normal registration process.
