For Immediate Release
Registration is now underway for Spring 2013 Lifelong Learning classes at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo North Hawaiʻi Education and Research Center (NHERC) in Honoka`a.
Back by popular demand is “Basic Grant Writing” with Jeani Navarro, who has over 30 years of grant writing experience. The course will be held in Waikoloa and will teach participants about the grant writing process, how to write a compelling statement of need, and what funders look for in proposals.
Navarro also offers two new workshops. “Fundraising for Non-Profits” will teach students how to identify and pursue alternative sources of funding. “Board Development for Non-Profits” will focus on creating a highly effective board of directors.
Former Kona Community School for Adults instructor Mark Boucher will teach a series of computer classes, including “Intro to PowerPoint,” “Basic Computers,” “Intro to Word,” and “Intro to Excel.” Classes will be held at Kanu o ka ‘Āina Learning ‘Ohana in Waimea on Wednesdays and Fridays, 6-8 p.m. starting in February for three weeks.
Deacon Ritterbush (aka Dr. Beachcomb) hosts a free lecture on “The Archeology of Beachcombing” and “All About Sea Glass.” They will be followed by beachcombing field trips in both East and West Hawaiʻi and art workshops, all relating to the free lecture.
“Intro to Beekeeping” will be taught by Jennifer Bach of Bee Love Apiaries and will provide students with the necessary skills to capture and maintain their own honeybee colonies. The course will include in-class presentations Thursday evenings at NHERC and hands-on training with honeybee colonies on Saturdays in Laupahoehoe and Ahualoa. A $25 registration discount will be given to the first 10 participants who complete their registration.
Advanced registration is required and space is limited.
