For Immediate Release

The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo College of Continuing Education and Community Service (CCECS) announces the accreditation of its English Language Institute (ELI) by the Commission for English Language Program Accreditation (CEA), the national accrediting body of English language programs. The announcement was made at the Commission’s August 2012 meeting.

“Our English Language Institute has received continued four-year accreditation after an intensive self-study and program review, and after receiving an initial one-year accreditation in 2011,” explained Farrah-Marie Gomes, interim dean, CCECS. The ELI joins 104 other intensive English language programs in the U.S. and abroad that are affirmed as meeting the high standards set by the CEA.

The ELI’s accreditation assures prospective students that it will provide English language instruction to non-native English speakers to prepare them for university study. It also ensures that the ELI’s curriculum, faculty, and program goals provide a high-quality learning environment.

“The accreditation also allows the ELI to better support UH Hilo’s commitment to bringing a global community to our campus, and enables the program to more strongly support the strategic goal of effective marketing that attracts international students,” Gomes said.
