Sambrano awarded Furukawa Study Abroad Scholarship

A University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo senior majoring in Japanese Studies has been awarded a $1,200 Audrey S. Furukawa Study Abroad Scholarship.
Mitchell Sambrano, a Honoka`a High School graduate, is the fourth recipient of the award. He has maintained a 3.75 GPA and is presently completing his Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) certificate. The scholarship will enable Sambrano to study at Tokyo Gakugei University for the academic year beginning October 2012.
In addition to being a dedicated student, Sambrano serves as a backstage assistant with the UH Hilo Performing Arts Center, is a student orientation leader, a member of the Filipino Club, and practices martial arts.
