SeniorNet celebrates anniversary with new computers, equipment

The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo SeniorNet Learning Center celebrates its 17th anniversary at UH Hilo this month with a celebration that coincides with the purchase of new computers and equipment.

“We have eight Dell computers that are running with Windows 7 operating systems and all computer stations have the latest in flat screen LCD monitors,” noted SeniorNet Director Lucy Maloney. “The classroom has also added a whiteboard and an eight-foot projection screen. These new additions will offer our students an enhanced learning experience with the latest computer technology available. We are delighted to be able to provide this new equipment to our students.”

The UH Hilo SeniorNet Learning Center is part of an international nonprofit organization that provides older adults with classes and access to computer technologies. A variety of introductory classes are offered throughout the year with more advanced classes such as Digital Camera Basics, Basic Photo Editing 1 & 2, Excel, and Skype offered several times a year. Mac basic and intermediate classes have also been added as well as a four-hour workshop on iPads 1, 2 & 3. All classes are taught by SeniorNet volunteers and held Monday through Friday at 891 Ululani Street in Hilo.

“We are always looking for additional instructors,” Maloney said, “and anyone who is interested may contact us by email at info@seniornethilo.org or call us at 974-7603 for more information.”

Classes at the SeniorNet Learning Center are open to anyone 50 years old or older. For a listing of classes, visit www.seniornethilo.org.
