The public is invited to The Power of Story Telling, a film screening of Vincent Who? on Friday, April 27 at noon in the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Campus Center 301. The screening will be presented by producer and co-director Curtis Chin, who is also featured in the documentary. There is no admission charge.
Vincent Who? was released in 2009, detailing the 1982 murder of Vincent Chin (no relation to Curtis Chin) that occurred in Detroit, Michigan because he was mistakenly thought to be Japanese, and therefore blamed for the loss of jobs in the U.S. auto industry.
Chin is an award-winning writer and producer who has worked for ABC, NBC, Disney Channel, and more. As a community activist, he co-founded the Asian American Writers Workshop and Asian Pacific Americans for Progress.
The event is co-sponsored by the UH Hilo Minority Access & Achievement Program, Lava Shoot, and the UH Diversity & Equity Initiative Committee.
